About Ryan Relich
I am a American Board of Medical Microbiology-certified clinical microbiologist who is passionately interested in all facets of diagnostic microbiology and laboratory medicine, especially laboratory directorship; infectious disease ecology, epidemiology, and pathology; new diagnostic test development and evaluation; pathogen discovery; and viral ecology. In my current academic position at the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine, I am actively involved in fellow, resident, and student teaching, and research involving in vitro diagnostic product development, clinical trials, and emerging virus ecology, epidemiology, pathogenesis, and detection. To learn more about my research, please visit: https://medicine.iu.edu/faculty/21552/relich-ryan/. As an employee of IU Health, I serve as the Medical Director of the Division of Clinical Microbiology, Medical Director of the Special Pathogens Unit Laboratory, Medical Director of the Donor Screening Laboratory, and Interim Medical Director of Molecular Pathology. I am immensely interested in the ecology of emerging viruses, pandemic preparedness, diagnostic test development, novel virus discovery and characterization, and establishing best practices for manipulating highly infectious clinical specimens for routine diagnostic testing.
