When I was little my parents used to laugh at me when I got a new toy. I would play with it for a little while but inevitably I would ask my Dad for his tools so I could tear apart the new toy. It was always a joy to see how something worked and how I could improve on it. This led to a keen interest into seeing how hardware and systems work, and making it work for me.
