About Ryan Maxwell
I am insurance coverage counsel for carriers intent upon preserving plain meaning and identifying the nuanced differences of each claim and complaint. More than that, I am but one of more than a dozen dedicated coverage attorneys comprising Hurwitz & Fine, P.C.’s nationally recognized and respected Insurance Coverage & Extracontractual Liability practice group, co-chaired by Dan Kohane and Steve Peiper. Together, we collaboratively operate to benefit those insurance practitioners encountering the most challenging conundrums. My practice concentrates on insurance coverage analysis and litigation in New York, preparing coverage opinions and strategies for complex claims issues arising under New York Insurance Law. Should litigation arise as it often does, I prepare pleadings, motions and briefs with an eye towards successfully navigating the twists and turns of motion and appellate practice. I graduated magna cum laude from both Medaille University and the University at Buffalo School of Law. Prior to legal practice, I accumulated five-years of invaluable, professional growth and development while employed at Bryant & Stratton College Online. That outward, public facing experience in various roles has helped shape my approach in areas such as client engagement and clarity in communication with courts, clients, opposing counsel, and the coverage community at large. While at the University at Buffalo, I served as an Articles Editor for the Buffalo Law Review, where my student comment discussing the scope of additional insured coverage in New York State was selected for publication and honored with the Justice Philip Halpern Award for Excellence in Writing. Additionally, I was awarded the Robert J. Connelly Trial Technique Award in 2019 and the Cali Award for Academic Excellence in Complex Litigation during my time at UB. My entry into the American College of Coverage Counsel’s National 2019 Law School Practical Skills Writing Competition earned Second Place honors. That honor garnered an invitation to the 2019 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Illinois—an invaluable experience and glimpse into the future. My bi-weekly column in Hurwitz and Fine’s Coverage Pointers, “Ryan’s Capital Roundup,” tracks the latest legislative and regulatory initiatives impacting our insurance carrier clients’ ability to conduct property and casualty insurance business in New York state and elsewhere. As the national readership of Coverage Pointers can attest, if you have a situation, “We love situations.”Some jurisdictions may consider this Attorney Advertising.
