ABOUT RYAN LONGSTAFF

After working in retail banking for three years I progressed to work for ASDA Wal*mart as an Assistant Merchandise planner for two years. I worked across several different technology markets and managed the P&L for half of the electronics category. I then moved into a buying role within the electronics department. My buying categories included computer hardware, personal media players, headphones, audio accessories, satellite navigation, in car audio and computing accessories. I was responsible for sales forecasting, product and range selection and the financial managements of my categories. I also coordinate the trading team to effectively manage the trading cycle and land projects promotions and ranges. I worked closely with my international sourcing team to develop import products for the UK market and maintain and establish close working relationships with suppliers. I also added the tablet computing category to my trading portfolio, and managed accounts with all major tablet manufacturers and distributors. This has involved the project management of live retail display solutions, introducing new brands into the UK market and developing joint business strategies with key supply partners.I moved on to become the buying manager for DVD home entertainment looking after all new release titles within ASDA. This involves working with all major studios to land exciting and innovative projects. I also sat on ASDA\'s entertainment council.I am now the senior buying manager for electronics and telecoms. I look after a talented team of traders who concentrate on providing market leading deals and stunning value to customers.
