ABOUT RYAN INGHAM
I specialize in the research field of life cycle assessment and ship hydrodynamics, focusing specifically on biocide-free hard foul release coatings. My work centers around investigating the roughness and hydrodynamic characteristics of \'in-service\' antifouling hull coatings. These coatings play a crucial role in preventing fouling on ship hulls, and I am dedicated to understanding how different coating types and conditions influence power requirements, fuel consumption, operational costs, and greenhouse gas emissions of ships. In addition to my expertise in hull antifouling coatings, I have a strong research interest in life cycle assessment of marine coatings. Specifically, I focus on evaluating the in-service performance, ease of cleanability, and identifying new avenues for the end of life and disposal of marine coatings. By examining the entire life cycle of these coatings, I aim to identify sustainable solutions that minimize environmental impacts and promote a circular economy within the maritime industry. Throughout my research, I\'ve delved into complex flow phenomena over coated hull and propeller surfaces, with the goal of minimizing emissions and enhancing the efficiency of marine transportation. By integrating life cycle assessment into my work, I strive to contribute to sustainable shipping practices. My ultimate goal is to promote the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies and solutions. With a holistic approach that considers both the performance and life cycle aspects, I aim to drive positive change and contribute to a more sustainable future for the maritime industry.
