About Ryan Hedgepeth
Dr. Ryan C. Hedgepeth is an experienced, award-winning urologic surgeon dedicated to comprehensive urologic care, advanced surgical techniques, and patient quality of life. Dr. Hedgepeth is an accomplished master surgeon in robotic laparoscopic surgery, having performed thousands of robotic surgical procedures over the last 2 decades and helping many aspiring robotic surgeons and programs achieve their goals. Dr. Hedgepeth developed the first advanced robotic surgery program in the state of North Dakota, performing numerous first surgeries in the medical history of that state. He then joined the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans as the Director of Urologic Oncology and served as the Chairman of Ochsner’s multi-disciplinary robotic surgery program - the first to perform a complete intracorporeal Whipple procedure in the Southeast United States while under his tenure. Dr. Hedgepeth returned to Ohio in 2015 and joined OhioHealth where he created and developed a comprehensive employeed and then integrated system department of Urology, managed numerous system initiatives in Urology, Cancer Care, Robotic Surgery, and Specialty Surgery, and created multiple innovative patient-centered care paths synergizing information systems, technology, and hospital processes. Dr. Hedgepeth has received numerous awards in his career but is most proud of the Cleveland Clinic Bruce Hubbard Stewart Memorial Award for Humanistic Medicine, awarded for his dedication to patient care by the largest residency house staff in America. Dr. Hedgepeth completed his medical school training at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He performed his urology and surgery residency training at the Cleveland Clinic and completed three fellowships (Urologic Oncology, Endourology/Robotic/Laparoscopic Surgery, & Health Services Research) at the University of Michigan. He has received support through the National Institute of Health for his training and research. Dr. Hedgepeth authored numerous scientific articles focusing on cancer care, robotic surgical techniques, and innovative practices to improve patients’ recovery and quality of life after cancer surgery.
