   The Whitlock Partners company has evolved to other projects from what we learned in new energy efficiency technologies from the first project: The Whitlock Building. The development of this sq ft building was the first of its kind in the area: 100+ years old but now carbon neutral /all electric mixed-use in Downtown Syracuse, NY. The Whitlock building was purchased in 2014, full of asbestos and sitting vacant since 1997. Over the course of the next few years the building went through a $5 million renovation transforming it into this new type of energy efficient building. In total the project has 26 apartments and of sq ft commercial space. Many local and state agencies have toured the building to form a NYS plan for developers on the energy efficiency and electric conversion of a 100+ year old building. The project has been studied by faculty and students at SUNY ESF and Syracuse University, and was presented at the annual NYS Empire State Development meeting. Syracuse University cites this project on their 10 year sustainability plan for the renovation of their 100+ year old buildings on campus. The disconnected gas meter is now a trophy in the main lobby area. From this first Whitlock Building project, we have used the energy efficiency technologies learned to repurpose, reinvent, and renovate properties such as 100+ year old homes to 100+ year old vacant commercial buildings.
