ABOUT RYAN GARCIA

I have been blessed to know since I was five years old that politics and government are my calling. Before I even fully understood why, I’ve always had a strong belief that government can and should be an instrument to help people and improve lives. I got my start by interning in the Texas House of Representatives and volunteering on a local campaign. Over the last 15+ years since, I’ve worked in just about every corner of Texas politics—building winning coalitions to lead multiple underdog races to victory, helping to pass dozens of bills into law, and crafting statewide political strategy in some of the toughest political terrain in the country. I’m the grandson of migrant farmworkers from Zacatecas, Mexico, and among the first generation of my family born in America. That legacy informs my sense of duty and responsibility to serve others. I’ve been lucky to learn from and work alongside some of Texas’ most respected political leaders—from grassroots legends like Choco Meza to legislative heavyweights like Trey Martinez Fischer. In 2020, the San Antonio Express-News named me one of the most powerful behind-the-scenes forces in San Antonio politics. My mom was thrilled—I felt the way I do when everyone is singing “Happy Birthday” to me and I can’t figure out what to do with my hands. Mostly though, I was grateful that some people thought I was doing right by the community I love. Today, I’m back where it all started—serving as Chief of Staff in the Texas House, where I focus on legislative strategy, policy development, and navigating the daily chaos that comes with trying to make government work better for real people.
