ABOUT RYAN CLAYTON

As Mechanical PPM Foreman at STRABAG Hartlepool, I am responsible for leading and coordinating planned preventative maintenance, inspections and servicing across a wide range of heavy industrial equipment used in the production, storage and transportation of precast concrete tunnel segments for the HS1 project. My role covers everything from small tools and auxiliary plant through to 50-tonne gantry cranes, advanced welding robots and large-scale concrete batching facilities - all with a focus on safety, reliability, efficiency and compliance. I take pride in combining strong technical knowledge with practical leadership - supporting teams, improving maintenance processes and helping ensure complex industrial operations run safely and efficiently.With over 12 years’ experience as a Mechanical Technician prior to moving into supervision, I’ve developed a strong, hands-on technical background across hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems. I’ve worked extensively on sitewide infrastructure including pipework, valves, motors, pumps, carousel systems, batching plants and automated welding equipment, alongside gantry and jib crane inspection, LOLER compliance and mobile plant machinery — including field service and breakdown response in demanding environments.I started my career as an apprentice Powered Access Engineer, achieving an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Construction Plant Maintenance. Since then, I’ve continuously invested in my development through additional training and industry qualifications. After a year as a Workshop Engineer, I went onto become a CAP-assessed Mobile Engineer before eventually going on to manage a powered access depot, where I oversaw pre-hire inspections, servicing programmes, LOLER compliance and reactive maintenance operations.
