ABOUT RYAN BARTRAM

I have worked in key accountancy, education and Government positions across the last 30 years. During this time I have progressed into teaching and then managing to a senior level across a range of education and data management focused roles, including Further Education Colleges, Local Authority, Awarding Body and most recently, Civil Service settings.I currently work as Head of Data for ACAS, the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. This role is responsible for driving a wide range of key data related functions within DDaT, including the data strategy, data governance framework, data management and data analysis, ensuring the data is of high quality, adheres to regulatory requirements and provides excellent insight and value for money.Prior to this, I worked as Head of Data Management within the Chief Data Officer area at HMRC. The Data Management strand of the Data Governance and Strategy Team was responsible for understanding the condition of HMRCs data and worked strategically to advise on how best to overcome long-term challenges. We supported the priorities of HMRC and, through improved Data Quality, enabled greater inter-operability and data exploitation across government. My previous HMRC role was Head of Data Science Services, again within the Chief Data Officer area, leading a team of data scientists to provide data reporting, analytics and innovative data science solutions to key projects that include elements of programming, statistical insight, forecasting, qualitative analysis and machine learning. In my initial HMRC role I worked as Skills and Capability Lead, working with specialist partners and colleagues to source, co-ordinate and sometimes deliver programmes of learning to assist with the upskilling of Civil Service colleagues, primarily in skills related to data science as part of the capability strand of the Data Strategy. The role also involved co-ordinating and researching the skills and capability building solutions for our team, including apprentices. As part of this role I led the Business Knowledge section that prepared over 200 data reports per month, ensuring robust quality assurance processes were developed and maintained. I line managed and mentored members of the staff team and acted as a senior manager.
