About Ryan Alderson

Hi I\'m Ryan! I grew up in Santa Clarita Valley then moved to Orange County in 2005 to pursue my degree from CSU Fullerton. I managed a BS in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in failure analysis. I participated in many facets of student leadership, social, academic and philanthropic programs throughout my pinch at university. My first internship was for the Quality Engineer at Thales-Raytheon Systems in Fullerton, CA. The people there were a great inspiration to me at that early stage in my engineering career. My last internship was again for a Quality Engineer at Forward Components, a qualified distributor and test lab for the DLA. Thankfully that rolled over into a full time position I was at for over three years. I was their first engineer(QE/TE/ME) at the company so I had to be a quick study and a self starter. I was responsible for counterfeit mitigation(AS6081) both four our own purchases and test orders, cable assembly operations/sales and ISO9001 auditing.Due to the sequestration the industry slowed down and I was let go, but I had started my journey in mil-aero. I started consulting for a purchasing software start-up that wanted to build an electronic component counterfeit mitigation lab. The consulting lead to employment which lead to partnership. We ran out of runway and couldn\'t acquire additional funding so the project was shut down. I was given the opportunity to go back to ole faithful of mil-aero interconnect. Glenair has a vast catalog to learn and a multitude of engineers on their campus that have a rich history in the industry. I started in the filter connector and fiber optic cable divisions then grew to add ruggedized electronic/photonics and integrated rigid-flex divisions to my list. By my fourth year I had a small team QE\'s I was mentoring while overviewing their inspection teams. After five years I moved on to a learn a new product at Teledyne Scientific & Imaging. The brain power at this facility was something I have never experienced before. I received a crash course in optical physics from the PhD\'s in components and systems. With my previous experience with defense and space customers that gave me a head start with the national defense and astronomy programs. Low volume, long cycle times and high complexity is the polar opposite of what I was used to at Glenair. A little over a year later I was approached by L3Harris for an opportunity much closer to home. This new role has the wrinkle of supplier facing as a systems manufacturer. Now I am sitting on the other side of the table I was just at few years ago.
