ABOUT RUWAN RATNAYAKE
I am an epidemiologist, humanitarian, and researcher with a PhD in epidemiology and mathematical modeling. I have considerable field experience in humanitarian contexts, concerning displaced populations, large-scale epidemics, and community health, primarily with the IRC and WHO. I have lead teams and oversaw complex projects in over 20 mostly crisis-affected countries as the lead epidemiologist for the International Rescue Commitee.I advocate for, and conduct, research to improve the standards for public health for crisis-affected communities. I have a particular interest in the delivery of public health interventions, the improvement of disease surveillance, cholera and Ebola outbreaks, and combining mathematical modelling with field evaluation. My publications are listed here: http://publicationslist.org/ruwan.ratnayakeAs of 2026, I am an Assistant Professor at McMaster University, and I work closely with the Department of Infectious Disesease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
