About Rutuja Uttarwar
Sometimes being an economist means pouring over inscrutable data generated by models. My expertise is in complexity economics - networks, agent-based models, and evolutionary methods. Other times being an economist has meant participating in construction work (in Rajasthan), sleeping on a farm (macchan) chasing away wild animals (in Maharastra), or meeting with people who live in cemeteries (in Madhya Pradesh). The juxtaposition of fieldwork and behind-the-desk research is the exciting mix to understanding (and hopefully) solving problems at the intersection of climate change and poverty. Economics as a field is particularly receptive to ideas from other fields, and because of this, I\'ve had the chance to explore ecology, evolution, languages and documentary filmmaking. Looking forward to also learning entirely new subjects.
