ABOUT RUTH GARCIA GAVILANES
I am settled in the UK with over 12 years of experience in data analysis in industry and academia. I am currently a Lead Data Scientist for the Payments Analytics team in Spotify where I balance managing a team, working in a leadership group and doing hands on-work. I focus on understanding payment performance, anomaly detection and impact of new payment methods in user subscription growth. Before that, I worked as a Product Senior Data Scientist for new products in Spotify where I combined data science and user research techniques to help drive the strategy and evaluation of new value propositions. Previously, I worked as a data scientist in Skyscanner helping teams optimise the purchase funnel and evaluation of digital ad campaigns. Before that, I did a postdoctoral in Computational Social Science which led me to learn the importance of story telling in data analysis. I hold a PhD and MS in Information Technology done in collaboration with Yahoo Labs and Telefonica in Spain, and a BS in Computer Engineering.
