About Ruth Fort

I’ve always been drawn to the spaces where medicine, education, and advocacy meet, because that’s where meaningful change begins. As a Haitian-American physician, I am deeply committed to empowering individuals to understand their health, advocate for themselves, and access equitable, high-quality care. My work is grounded in the belief that health equity must be both community-rooted and system-driven, whether in the clinic, the classroom, or through national policy.I am an incoming Pediatric Resident in the PLUS Program (Pediatric Leaders Advancing Health Equity), a specialized training track focused on developing physician leaders committed to advancing health equity in child health. My clinical and advocacy interests center on improving pediatric outcomes and addressing disparities that begin early in life.My passion for HIV prevention and global health has taken me from the United States to Haiti, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, where I have led HIV prevention workshops, conducted public health research, and examined the real-world impact of HIV vaccine trials as a two-time RAMP Scholar with the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN). I have also presented nationally on topics including vaccine-induced seropositivity (VISP) and culturally tailored mHealth interventions. In parallel, I have spent over a decade in leadership within the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) and now serve as Postgraduate Section Treasurer for the National Medical Association (NMA). Through these roles, I have designed national programs, contributed to policy conversations, and championed initiatives that advance health equity across clinical and academic spaces. My long-term goal is to build sustainable health education centers that serve as both community learning hubs and access points for care, particularly for underserved populations.Outside of medicine, I enjoy traveling, exploring new cuisines, and interior decorating.
