ABOUT RUSSIA CHAVIS CARDENAS
Russia Chavis Cardenas, MPP is a seasoned public policy professional working at the intersection of civic engagement and health. In 2022, Russia joined Civic Health Alliance, a nonpartisan coalition of health and civic leaders allied around advancing America\'s health through civic engagement in care settings and communities. Russia has a deep passion for racial equity and leveraging her policy experience to reduce negative impacts on global health and climate. She studied at the University of California, Santa Cruz, for her BA in Legal Studies and Politics, and the University of Southern California for her Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science Technology and MPP. Russia serves as a national advisor for the University of Southern California Center for Inclusive Democracy and facilitated the Center\'s training and community learning for underserved communities to participate in local and statewide redistricting processes. Russia remains committed to increasing civic engagement within underresourced communities and aims to elevate community voice on issues that increase economic mobility and advance climate and population health. Russia is a certified yoga instructor and the co-producer of the Black Maternal Health podcast, which is focused on helping African American mothers overcome the challenges they face leading to maternal and infant mortality and increasing positive pregnancy and birthing experiences for African American families. She is a steering committee member of the Reproductive Health Coalition, co-founded by the American Medical Women\'s Association and Doctors for America. The coalition consists of a wide-range of health professional associations and allied organizations who advocate with a unified voice to protect access to reproductive care. Russia is a Los Angeles County Community Prevention and Population Health Task Force member responsible for informing policy actions, including public health protections, and supporting community engagement in County policy decision-making.
