ABOUT RUSSELL BAIN

As each year goes by experiences build, lessons are learned and improvements are made, the pure essence of quality management. I suppose that in reality I have spent the last thirty plus years trying very hard to do myself out of a job. After all with perfect processes, perfect people, a perfect supply chain and the perfect customer that’s me done, finished, redundant!Now having just described the ultimate scenario of what I try to provide in my professional career what have I achieved to date?Experience:Thirty plus years working in the Nuclear, Oil, Gas and Chemical industries. I started my career as a mechanical apprentice at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, Dounreay. What did I learn? There is no substitute for a structured well developed training regime and years of experience.Twenty plus years working in project environments. Learning? All projects are unique, even those within the same scope / industries. Each has their very own special set of requirements, dynamics and challenges.Eight plus years as a member of the Senior Management team, in the post of Project Quality Manager, designing, constructing and commissioning the largest Nuclear Class 1 Civil Engineering Project in the UK for some period of time. This has without a doubt been the biggest challenge of my career to date. Principal challenges? Educating the supply chain in what is required to deliver Systems, Structures and Components to a Class 1 Nuclear project, recruiting suitably qualified and experienced personnel (SQEP), developing new processes and associated inspection and test plans to achieve safety case requirements, working alongside the Office for Nuclear Regulation, ensuring flow down of nuclear safety and quality requirements through a tiered supply chain.
