About Russell Ogle
I am a PhD chemical engineer with 39 years of industrial consulting experience and a newly earned MS in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (Climate Science track). Additionally, I am a licensed professional engineer, a certified safety professional, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. My career has been devoted to investigating the performance and safety of chemical process systems. I am now seeking an opportunity to leverage my chemical engineering skills and climate science knowledge into the public policy arena. My objectives are to promote a better understanding of our changing global climate and to advocate for safe climate solutions.
Experience
Principal Engineer
Jul 2022 — Present · Warrenville, IL, US
I voluntarily interrupted my career—37 years after my PhD—to pursue a master’s degree in climate science. I wanted to get a fundamental background in climate science to apply my skills more fully as a chemical engineer to the challenge of climate change intervention. To that end, I spent a year as a full-time graduate at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in their Atmospheric and Oceanic Science (AOS) program. I completed my master’s degree with course work in the physical climate system, atmospheric circulation, physical oceanography, atmospheric radiation, bioclimatology, sustainability risk management, and geophysical fluid dynamics.Furthermore, I wanted to explore the state of the art of commercial technologies being deployed for climate solutions. In addition to completing the formal requirements of the AOS program, I attended two national conferences on carbon capture and storage (Des Moines, Iowa and Houston, Texas), attended an 8-hour webinar on climate restoration, and completed a short course on carbon capture and storage through the University of Edinburgh (Scotland). I remain employed with Exponent on a part-time basis as I complete some remaining project responsibilities as an expert witness.
