Associate Professor of International Security Studies and former Academic Director in the National Defense University Joint Special Operations Master of Arts program (JSOMA), an accredited, full-time, fully-funded, competitive-admission, one-year Joint Professional Military Education graduate program that enables selectively chosen active-duty Special Operators from all branches of the armed services to earn a Master\'s degree in Strategic Security Studies. In addition to directing a core course on power, ideology, and legitimacy, I have taught the core course on strategic thought, Introduction to Security Studies, and completely redesigned and updated an elective course on Economic Statecraft. I work closely with Special Operations commands and with fellow scholars associated with the Triangle Institute for Security Studies (TISS), a consortium of Duke University, UNC-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University, to provide students with a policy-relevant and rigorous academic experience that includes the writing of an original, graduate-level thesis and to support academic and research requests from operational units, primarily in Psychological Operations. As Academic Director, I performed the duties of a departmental chair, including counseling at-risk students, scheduling, faculty teaching assignments, and coordinating administrative support for book orders, syllabus production, and digital learning management systems.

ABOUT RUSSELL BURGOS
Teaching, Research, Analysis in Strategic Security Studies and global affairs. Opinion/content shared here is produced in my personal capacity and does not necessarily reflect official positions of the United States government.
