ABOUT RUQAIYAH JARVITON

I am a final year Philosophy and Global Sustainable Development student with a passion for environmental anthropology, sustainability, and agroecology. Throughout my studies, I have explored broad and nuanced perspectives on sustainability through diverse disciplines such as economics, sociology, anthropology, and ecology. I’ve studied human-nature relationships, human rights-based development issues, environmental decolonisation, religion and environmental sustainability, biodiversity, food and culture, and more. By engaging with these diverse perspectives across different universities and continents, I’ve developed a holistic approach to sustainability and environmentalism, which I wish to carry into future opportunities. Alongside my studies, I have immersed myself in the student experience, actively participating in projects that combine practical skills and theoretical knowledge. I’ve served as deputy editor for two student magazines and The Warwick Boar newspaper, refining my writing and editorial skills. I helped to create the Warwick University Anti-Racism Training as a student co-creator. I’ve also volunteered with community gardens, campus farm groups, the Concordia Greenhouse Initiative (including vermicomposting and hydroponics), and the Concordia University campus herb garden. These experiences have deepened my understanding of food systems, community initiatives, and sustainable project management, including running projects like food forests.I have a genuine interest in the study, management, and conservation of nature and aim to work with groups committed to fostering human-nature relationships that are mutually beneficial and help preserve both humanity\'s social well-being as well as the health of the planet. If you are looking for a motivated, hard-working individual passionate about conservation, food systems, urban agriculture, and holistic, intersectional approaches to sustainability, I’d love to connect!
