About Rupinder Sandhu

Empty shelves can be frightening, but empty fields and barns would be devastating.” This message from AFBF President Zippy Duvall resonates with me strongly and reinforces the value that I bring to securing our nation’s food security as an agronomic research scientist. My passion is to help agriculture industries to address the global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security to create a better tomorrow for our planet.I have over 8 years of project management experience including designing and implementing research studies, field trials, collecting agronomic data, analyzing and presenting results to wide variety of audiences. This work has involved using soil and crop science to enhance yields; investigating environmental problems such as the impacts of climatic changes on crop productivity; and utilizing optimal management practices including seeding rates, planting dates, irrigation, fertigation, cover crops. Besides field work, I studied different crop models to determine the impact of climate change on crop production, I analyzed 36-year historical data to establish an agricultural baseline database and generate 80-year projections for a USDA project. I am the proud recipient of a Distinguished Graduate Assistant Fellowship Award and was recognized as Outstanding Graduate Student Leader by the Biological Systems Engineering Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I have also gained experience working with carbon programs and registries where I assisted growers earn revenue for opting regenerative practices. In every facet of my work, I continually strive to contribute at the highest level. Please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn as I look forward to collaborating with you to create a world where empty shelves and fields are no longer a reality.SOFTWARE SKILLS: • R• Microsoft Suite• SAS• ARM• AquaCrop model • Hybrid-Maize• Comet-Farm• Data Management systems - John Deere, Climate FieldView, Apex, Ag leader SMSADVANCED TECHNICAL SKILLS:• Plant Water Relations• Applied Soil Physics• Microclimate – Biological environment• Advanced mathematical modeling• Data Analytics• Sampling data management & visualization • Spatial Variability• Advanced remote sensing• Advanced sensing in agricultural & natural resourcesINSTRUMENTATION AND TECHNIQUESWatermark Sensors, Neutron Attenuation Gauge, Soil Moisture Probes, Soil Temperature Sensor, Leaf Area Index Meter, Plant Canopy Temperature Sensor, Handheld Normalized Vegetation Index (NDVI) Sensor, GPS, and SPAD Chlorophyll Meter
