ABOUT RUPESH THAKKAR
I recently joined GSK as a Pharmacist Account Manager for the Midlands region, where I lead the Respiratory Portfolio alongside an exceptional team. Together, we support Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in delivering patient-centred care.Prior to this role, I worked as a Senior Pharmacist within the Partnership Team at NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit (MLCSU). My work focused on transforming medicines optimisation services within Integrated Care System (ICS) footprints, enhancing medication safety, and leading prescription management initiatives within PCNs.I have also worked with colleagues at NHS England on National Digital Transformation workstreams, building on my earlier role as Implementation Lead for the Midlands and East of England region. My mission was to equip patients with tools to access health information and services directly, enabling them to take charge of their own health and wellbeing. This included significant contributions to the NHS App and broader self-care and system integration initiatives. In my previous role as Chief Pharmacist within a PCN, I was responsible for developing and executing the medicines strategy and pharmacy operational business planning. In Summary, I have extensive experience as a Senior Prescribing Advisor across ICS, national, and regional levels. I bring a robust skill set spanning primary care, digital implementation, medicines optimisation, pharmaceutics, healthcare management, commissioning, clinical research, and pharmacy practice.Academically, I hold a Master of Pharmacy degree from Aston University, along with a Clinical Diploma and an Independent Prescribing qualification. I have a specialist interest in cardiology and recently completed the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Master’s in Healthcare Leadership. I am also a graduate of the CPPE Chief Pharmaceutical Officer Pharmacy Leaders Development Programme (2024 cohort).
