About Rune Toms

I am a national healthcare leader with a strong focus on maternal-child health. I direct national efforts to improve front-line quality and safety in neonatology, aiming to enhance the well-being of mothers and children. As a physician leader, I focus on facilitating opportunities for physicians and other healthcare professionals to find ways to improve patient experience and outcomes, particularly in the context of maternal-child health. My primary area of interest lies in the intersection of our environment and health. I am a board-certified pediatric cardiologist and neonatologist, with a strong clinical background that enables me to optimize the intensive care of neonates with congenital heart disease and conduct specialized hemodynamic assessments of critically ill neonates.My passion for the science of medicine has only deepened over the years, but the most rewarding aspect of my clinical work remains the privilege of caring for patients and their families. As a healthcare leader, I find great fulfillment in educating, encouraging, and fostering the growth of younger colleagues. To be recognized as an enabler in this field is a privilege I truly cherish.I want to continue to work as a leader nationally and internationally to optimize health further by improving knowledge and awareness of the intersection between environment and health and broader societal discrepancies and health. I will continue to promote the right to education and its pivotal role in reducing societal barriers and improving public health. I will address global concerns for maternal child health, as they are proportionally the victims of conflict and climate change.Outside of work, I find great joy and peace in nature, whether hiking, biking, or telemark skiing. I am passionate about regenerative gardening and enjoy learning about sustainable practices and the small steps I can take to rejuvenate the environment around me.
