ABOUT RUIZ RIVERA
Anyone who knew me on the basketball court would never question my drive. My passion. My commitment to the game. From 5 am workouts, to diving for loose balls, to standing on the pedestal. I loved nothing more than to do whatever it took to help my team win.But the sad thing is that my body got old and injuries prevented me from competing at the elite level that I was so used to playing all these years. Lucky for me, something else came along and to fuel my high motor. And that’s Data Science.Data Science and Machine Learning is now the same way for me that basketball once was (and always will be). I love how everything you need to learn is available at your fingertips and that nothing hinders your ability to contribute to high scale, high impact problems that need creative solutions. Over the past year, I’ve been scraping the internet learning as much Python, SQL, Bash, AWS, Azure, Power BI, Bayesian Statistics, and all the various Data Science and Machine Learning frameworks that I could get my hands on. And from January to April 2022, I had the opportunity to learn with some of the best and brightest at Brainstation who have empowered me to go forth and use my ML superpowers to create value. And value I created by recently doing projects for the BC Wildfire Service which strive to lower the entry barriers for other tech professionals to contribute to this field so that we can do our part as a community to keep BC safe. Right now, my goal is to keep growing, keep learning, and become the best Data Scientist that I can possibly be. I’m excited for my next step in wherever this journey has yet to take me. If you think you’re somebody who can be part of my journey and values my skills, enthusiasm, and most importantly, my character, then I’d love to hear from you.Till then, happy learning.
