About Rudraprasad Bhattacharyya

I am a registered Professional Engineer and a Chartered Civil Engineer with over fifteen years of research, teaching and consulting experience in energy and aerospace industries. I specialize in solving complex, multidisciplinary mechanical/structural integrity issues and provide Technical Assurance by balancing technical challenges with stakeholder priorities to drive high-value results through Client Relationship management and mentoring the next generation of engineers. My expertise includes use of advanced engineering technology in areas such as onshore and offshore structures, subsea structures under HPHT, blast analysis of pressure vessels and containments, and damage analysis of fiber composite structures. I am proficient in large scale nonlinear finite element analysis for Structural, Fluid/Soil Structural Interaction, Thermo-Structural, Dynamic, Fatigue analysis. I am also working on pipeline integrity assessment, design of steel and concrete structures using relevant codes and guidelines.

I use Abaqus to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of risers, tie-in-spools, and onshore pipelines. I am familiar with the calculation of the hydrodynamic loads imparted on the structures due to waves and submarine currents, effect of pipe-soil interaction and pipe end expansion due to temperature change. I have used Fe-Safe for fatigue analysis. I perform strength and fatigue design checks of pressurized pipes as per ASME standards (such as B31.3, B31.8). For the design of pipe supporting structural components I use AISC 365 on a regular basis. I mentored junior analysts in automating post-processor Python scripts, design-check spreadsheets and evaluation of appropriate flange rating using ASME B16.5. I coordinate with the draftspersons in preparing the design drawings and do thorough review prior to final approval. I attend the weekly progress meetings with the project managers and clients. Specific to the “Analyst” team I have prepared budgets for upcoming projects, identified additional scope of work, performed analysis with realistic models, and been involved in QAQC activities related to analysis and design (such as automation using Python to reduce manual error). I have knowledge of several API and DNV standards (such as API RP 2A, API 2MET, DNV RP C105, DNV RP C203, DNV RP F114). Occasionally I use pipeline specific software such as OrcaFlex, Sage Profile, AGA/PRCI OBS.
