ABOUT RUBIA R. VALENTE
I am an Associate Professor with tenure at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College (CUNY). I earned a B.A. in International Relations with a minor in French from Southern Methodist University, and a Masters’ degree in International Political Economy and Ph.D. in Public Policy and Political Economy from The University of Texas at Dallas. On its broadest level, my work applies advanced quantitative methods and socioeconomic theory toinvestigate the impact of policies on underrepresented and marginalized groups, providing empiricalsupport for formulating policies addressing socioeconomic inequalities due to race, class, and gender in social, political, religious, and educational institutions. My research also evaluates the impact of public policies on the quality of life (a.k.a. happiness) of minority groups. And my regional focus is Latin America and Brazil. Before joining Baruch, I was a research associate (post-doctoral fellow) at the School of Economic,Political, and Policy Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas and a visiting lecturer in theDepartment of Sociology (Program in Latino Studies) at Princeton University.
