ABOUT R. SHAWN CHESTER

With over a decade of experience in leadership, mentorship, and community service, I bring a unique perspective to higher education administration. As a former Military Police Officer and recruiter, I developed invaluable skills in team management, crisis resolution, and strategic communication. Transitioning these skills into the educational field, I have pursued advanced studies, currently working towards a Master’s in Higher Education at Rowan University.In my role as Graduate Coordinator at Rowan’s Military Service Office, I have focused on enhancing student experiences, particularly for veterans. This position allows me to advocate for students, streamline support services, and promote inclusivity within the campus community. My collaborative work with faculty, staff, and external partners has deepened my understanding of the operational needs within higher education, particularly in supporting diverse student populations.Outside of my professional responsibilities, I lead mentorship initiatives such as \'A Few Good Men\' with Winslow Township’s football team and through Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity\'s Sigma Beta Club, guiding young people toward academic and personal success. My approach is student-centered, aiming to foster environments that are supportive, accessible, and engaging.With a foundation in education and a career rooted in service, I am passionate about building pathways for student success. I look forward to contributing to a team committed to driving educational excellence and opportunity for all.
