ABOUT SELVAKUMAR RAMACHANDRAN FBCS

I am Dr Selvakumar Ramachandran (Selva), New York City and Oxford (UK) based technologist, innovator, public speaker and a passionate advocate for using technology to empower humanity and promote inclusion. A Fellow at British Computer Society. Born in India, my journey began with challenges due to disabilities but led me to an illustrious career in computer science, virtual reality (VR), AI, and accessible technologies. As a co-founder of Kerckhoffs Ltd in the UK and Eyemmersive Inc. in the USA, I\'ve dedicated my life to breaking down barriers and fostering a more inclusive society through innovative solutions.My academic path started with a bachelor\'s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, where I was celebrated for leadership and community service. I then moved to Sweden to complete my MSc in Software Engineering at Blekinge Tekniska Högskola, followed by a PhD in Information Science at the University of Rome – Tor Vergata, Italy. My work earned me the Google Europe Scholar Award for Students with Disabilities, a testament to my commitment to inclusivity.At Kerckhoffs Ltd, I lead Eyemmersive®, an ambitious project aimed at revolutionizing the tourism industry through VR, making travel experiences accessible to everyone, especially those with disabilities. My efforts extend to the DIVETOUR project with the European Network for Accessible Tourism (ENAT), funded by the Erasmus+ program, where we\'re developing methodologies for accessible tourism.As a tutor at the University of Oxford’s Department of Continuing Education, I use my extensive experience in software engineering, data science, and AI to inspire students. My Fellowship at the British Computer Society (BCS) and fellowship at the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) underscore my dedication to research on VR-based applications for accessibility and inclusion. My work has received funding and accolades from the European Commission and other prestigious organizations.Serving as an adjunct professor at Syed University of Engineering & Technology, I bring my innovative spirit and advocacy for inclusivity to inspire future engineers and technologists. My vision is for a more accessible world through technology, influencing both academia and industry.
