About Randall Rice

I\'m a civil engineer passionate about building better communities and creating sustainable solutions. Currently, I’m a Staff Civil Engineer at Redwood Materials, where I’m part of a team designing and managing projects focused on innovative recycling and sustainable technology. My role involves everything from planning and design to overseeing construction, all with an eye on efficiency and environmental responsibility.Before this, I worked in municipal engineering, managing capital projects for roads, storm drainage, water, sewer, and parks. I handled project planning, design, and construction management while also overseeing land use and development approvals. I even worked on internal projects like facilities and property management—making sure the city’s assets were being used wisely.Earlier in my career, I spent 13 years in the private sector, diving into mining, pipeline construction (both traditional and trenchless), and land development design. I’ve been involved in almost every part of the engineering process: design, construction oversight, quality assurance, material testing, fieldwork, and project management.I’ve also been active in professional organizations, serving as President of the ASCE Truckee Meadows Branch, a Board Member of the ASCE Nevada Section, and currently serve as the Treasurer of APWA, Northern Nevada. During my time at the City of Reno, I led our collective bargaining unit as President, which gave me valuable experience in teamwork and advocacy; I was also appointed to the BEFAC Board by a City of Reno Councilperson.
