Youth Operations Manager @Medway Council
Managing a fantastic team of full time, part time staff and volunteers to deliver youth work across Medway. Working in partnership with various organisations to oversee a diverse and challenging programme of activities and opportunities to support young people to be the best they can be. Responsibility for a budget of close to £1million per year, twelve full time staff and a further 30 full time equivalent part time and volunteer youth workers. This has involved developing joint work with the local Youth Offending Team, as well as managing significant changes in the service. Working with four charity sector management committees, supporting them to raise funds, guide and scrutinise the youth work in Medway\'s main youth centres. This post is responsible for dealing with safeguarding concerns and has worked closely with Medway Safeguarding Children\'s Board. It has also been an opportunity to develop new strategies for youth participation, as well working with colleagues and partners across the area to tackle issues related to youth homelessness, which has lead to appointment as chair of a multi-agency young people\'s housing committee.

An interest in technology and youth participation led to MA level research on the impact of the internet on young people\'s activism. Currently engaged in PhD research about young people, families and activism at the University of Huddersfield.
