About Roy Hobbs

I am an experienced and well respected Journalist, Consultant and Public Relations specialist with 30 plus years of award winning industry experience in Radio, Television and Print. I have helped to put several start-up News Operations on air, one a regional cable news operation and a national broadcast news operation. I taught a portion of the Masters of Broadcast Journalism Program at Emerson College in Boston. As a National Sales Manager at the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Council I sold Houston as a convention destination to national association executives. I lead the sales team in the number of conventions committed to the city for 4 of my 5 years there. As the youngest Equal Rights Investigator on record in Wisconsin I was the lead in of one of the first sexual discrimination cases ever investigated by an EEOC agency in the country. I founded the Houston Association of Black Journalists and served as its President for 2 years. I also served as Vice President of the Nashville Association of Black Journalists for 2 years and President of the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists for 1 term. I also volunteered with the National Association of Black Journalists for 10 years as a special assistant to the National President and Executive Director focusing on its National Convention. I was also a member of the Houston Press Club and participated in its annual spoof show of local media. I earned 5 Emmy Awards. A Best Newscast Award from the Massachusetts AP and a regional Edward R Murrow Award. In 2001, I along with 10 other NABJ members went to Kenya for 2 weeks at the invitation of The East African Journalists Association and the Kenyan Government. While there we discussed freedom of the press.
