About Roxanne Darling
My focus is abstract Biophilic Art Photography. I would love to collaborate with you on placing this nature-based fine art in your home, office, retail, health, or hotel space.I have been listening to nature for six decades, beginning in early childhood when I took refuge in the forest and fashioned clothing out of leaves and vines. I graduated UC Berkeley in marine biology, which gave me opportunities to swim with dolphins and study undersea creatures in the wild. I then realized it was time to get out of my head and occupy my own body, first as a ballet dancer then as a mindbody trainer and community health leader for several Native American and Alaskan Native communities. Many elders shared indigenous wisdom with me. I further honed my experience as one of Johnson & Johnson\'s highest-rated health coaches. When the internet arrived, I was spiritually moved by the ability to find and facilitate our human connections with each other. I became a marketing adviser to an internet tech company — Bare Feet Studios — eventually becoming a partner, and now am sole owner.As my mother, herself an artist, was fading with Alzheimer’s, I moved from Hawai‘i to Florida care for her. We spent our days visiting galleries and drawing at home, unexpectedly unearthing my own desire to create.Following her death, I camped for several months in the western U.S. where I had this recurring urge to disrobe and make a photograph. After writing poems to each photograph, I came to realize nature was speaking through me to examine the tension between reverence and desecration, our unconscious consumerism, and how easily we demean our aging selves. At the same time, I was creating abstract photography with my former partner, what I call Biophilic Art Photography. We had received a large commission at a luxury Maui resort to create abstract photographs sourced from the elements on the property. The results were so successful, the hotel created a lobby gallery just for us.Current and past clients include New Mexico Public Art Program, Lannan Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, Hawaii Convention Center, Maui Visitors Bureau, and countless small businesses and nonprofit organizations. I am currently settled in Santa Fe, NM.Fun Fact: I was among the first video podcasters, aka YouTubers, achieving over 2.5 million downloads of our show, Beach Walks with Rox, which launched in 2006.
