About Roxana Newton
With more than 15 years of experience supporting community and economic development programs, I am currently the Program Director for Economic Development at the Texas Department of Agriculture and focused on developing and managing economic development finance programs to support rural communities and agricultural businesses throughout Texas. Previously, I served as the Office of the Governor’s Small Business Advocate and was dedicated to supporting and strengthening the small business ecosystem in Texas. Before joining the Governor’s Office, I served as the U.S. and LAC Regional Director for the Whole Planet Foundation and managed a $12 million loan/grant portfolio to microfinance organizations. I have also supported local economic development and the small business community through my work with the Texas Workforce Commission’s Skills for Small Business Program and managing the Women’s Business Center in San Antonio. I started my career as a Community and Economic Development Advisor with Peace Corps Costa Rica and a business development associate with Nathan Associates Inc. in Washington D.C.
