ABOUT ROXANA KHOSHRAVESH

From botanical excursions to botanical illustration, from writing plant stories to teaching Systematic Botany, and from imaging plant cells to pursuing a professional career in plant sciences, my desire has always been to make plants visible and to bring the value and beauty of plants to people’s lives. Growing up in Iran, and traveling across its forests, mountains, and deserts with their unique landscape planted the seeds of love for nature very early in my heart. Since I remember, plants were everywhere, first, they were my toys, then my study subject, later research and art material, and always a source of inspiration. As a professional, I have let myself experience a breadth of plant sciences and explore working in the field as a field botanist, in a laboratory as a plant physiologist, and behind a monitor as a technical writer, as well as explore plant science in North America and the UK. Finishing my undergrad, I also noticed that leadership and management are always overlooked in higher education. To educate myself, I participated in workshops and courses on Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems. Consequently, I developed a parallel second career in these Systems. Soon, I was promoted to the position of a management representative in quality Assurance office of a private calibration company. Although each scientist or a Ph.D. student becomes a project manager by experience, I learned this skill formally through a postgraduate degree.
