My role is to provide the guidance needed to make decisions and take actions.For my team, this means providing the vision and guardrails for them to bring their own perspectives and work collaboratively to achieve what’s best for our stakeholders.For our senior leadership team, it means keeping a step ahead of where we are to what is possible, in line with our vision and values in order to define and pursue goals in the best interest of the company.I enjoy the balance between these two spectrums of leadership. Just as I enjoy balancing the extremes of technology.Modernization: technology can simplify processes and reduce costs. However, it needs to be tempered with an understanding of the underlying goal we’re trying to reach and the “why?”. Then we can balance the latest and greatest with existing resources that still serve us well to best serve our stakeholders.Collaboration: technology can bring together staff in geographically distant locations so no one feels like an island unto themselves. However, I still provide the one-on-one connection with and among our team fostering our collaboration and community.Opportunities: AI or machine learning offers amazing opportunities that leaders are excited about. It can be perceived as a threat to teams or individuals as a threat to keeping their position. This requires balancing expectations of leadership while encouraging continual learning to best equip and ease the fears of staff.I look at technology as a starting point. A way to enable people to collaborate, work better, and achieve more. A launch platform that improves with diversity of ideas and opinions. A foundation for creating greater stability and reliability supporting agile company growth.My passion is using this tool to bring together people so we can improve thinking and processes to generate greater results.We only get better when we come together.
