ABOUT ROSS BARRETT
As an Associate and Project Leader, Ross is a gifted and innovative designer and brings strong design flair and creative new ideas to the practice, placing a key importance on sustainable integrated design as a driver for all of his work. Since 2002, he has developed a wealth of experience in low energy design and has assisted in the progression of HLM Environment, promoting and providing direction and guidance on low energy strategies at project level.Ross’s own research in the field of low carbon design and renewable technologies has helped HLM to break new ground in affordable, low-energy housing. As project architect, Ross was responsible for the award winning ultra low energy Passive House Terrace at Scotland’s Housing Expo, a series of family homes which demonstrate an 80% saving in energy consumption and which dispense with conventional heating systems altogether. Ross has since presented and spoken widely on the key principles and benefits of delivering Passive House as the backbone of the’ zero carbon’ agenda.Ross also takes a key role in all competition work within the practice and also undertakes responsibility for Design Reviews and Design Quality within the Glasgow Office.As a graduate of Building Design Engineering Course at Strathclyde University he completed his M.Arch in Advanced Architectural Design in 2005 and was nominated for the RIAS Silver Medal, subsequently exhibiting his project work at the ‘SIX’ Exhibition at the Lighthouse. He was also awarded the Glasgow Institute of Architects Award for Outstanding Work in 2004/5.
