I’m a weekend producer at KATU news in Portland, Oregon. I produce our weekend 5 pm, postgame and 11 pm shows. My passion for hard news production and investigative reporting, stems from my desire and drive to tell untold stories. Produce 30 minute/1 hour live on-air and digital broadcasts for Portland and surrounding areas - Produce two live newscasts a day- Have produced the 4pm, 5pm, 6pm and 11 pm weekdays- Produced the 5pm, 6pm and 11pm on weekends- Choose, organize, write and research stories for air- Add digital elements like polls and computer views of our website- Work quickly to add breaking news, and developing updates to stories before they air - Adjust show times when sports games go over slot- Communicate with Master tech at our sister station when times are adjusted - Keep track of timing floating/adding stories on the spot when timing of the broadcast fluctuates - Give time cues to meteorologists, reporters and anchors to stay on time - Communicate with directors, anchors, reporters and other producers to make sure the show runs smoothly - Keep a watch on local officials and organizations website and emails for information - Being creative with how the broadcast looks, to keep viewers invested - Constantly evolving for the audience to keep them invigorated, at a time where many find news through social media - Control the weather computer for a meteorologist in the field
