ABOUT RORY D.

I\'m a Design Engineer with interests in complete system development, be that mechanical design for products, manufacturing processes, or systems for managing and assisting people.As an undergraduate studying Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Cambridge I was a highly active student, getting involved in a range of societies; rowing, choral singing, dancing, church outreach and children\'s work, and a design position in a student society focused on building and racing a solar powered car.Graduating during the pandemic has given me a series of interesting problems and challenges, and corresponding potential solutions that need to be found. After a period assisting with the rollout of hospital based Covid19 measures, I was fortunate to be headhunted into a management capacity for the rollout of Covid19 pooled testing to students at Cambridge University, handling the complicated logistical, legal, manufacturing, supply and data considerations that go with setting up a regulated and GDPR critical manufacturing, distribution and gathering operation in under four weeks. This, on top of four years of degree level education covering a broad base of engineering disciplines, has fostered in me a proactive problem solving outlook focused on identifying and solving root causes of issues rather than applying patch fixes.
