100M XPRIZE Carbon Removal sponsored by The Musk FoundationXPRIZE Carbon Removal is aimed at tackling the biggest threat facing humanity - fighting climate change and rebalancing Earth’s carbon cycle. The goal of this competition was to catalyze the market with as many high quality, responsibly deployed carbon removal technologies able to reach gigaton levels of removal across four pathways: Land, Ocean, Rocks, and Air. Over 1300 teams from across the globe entered the competition. This competition is the largest evaluation of carbon removal technologies to date, which included a robust global field testing program with a rigorous measurement, verification, and reporting. Companies were evaluated based on cost, sustainability, and scale.$20 MILLION NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE A $20M global competition that aimed to accelerate technologies focused on industrial emissions capture, conversion, utilization and storage. 10 Finalists from around the globe scaled their technologies from lab scale to direct emissions capture from coal and natural gas plants. These companies successfully demonstrated that CO2 can be captured and converted into highly valuable products that can be used to make everything from sustainable aviation fuel, building materials, bio plastic, and more.$5M IBM Watson AI XPRIZE The IBM Watson AI XPRIZE aimed to accelerate adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for good and spark creative, innovative, and audacious demonstrations of the technology that are truly scalable to solve societal grand challenges.Each team’s technologies were evaluated across four dimensions: achieved technical impact, evidenced real-world impact, scalability of real-world impact, and ethics and safety. The judges compared the teams against each other and nominated three finalists for the Grand Prize using AI for malaria detection, depression treatment, and infant biometrics.
