About Ron Sylvester
After a journalism career spanning 42 years, the layoff axe finally hit in 2019. With extensive experience covering courts, I became a magistrate judge in Kansas. As a member of the news media, I covered just about every beat available, from sports to arts and entertainment, food, gambling, medicine, health, science and technology, crime and legal affairs. I spent the last six years as an effort in one of the largest newsrooms on the West Coast and a small Midwestern newspaper. I worked on typewriters and produced on-line multimedia and social media journalism. I have helped develop innovative ways to cover the news, including becoming one of the first to cover trials live from the courtroom on Twitter. Specialties: legal affairs, media relations and training, social media marketing, open records, specialty and beat reporting, writing, editing, emerging uses of technology in journalism, online journalism, video production, organization and team management, project management. I also write books reviews for the Spokane Spokesman-Review. And I’m a performing magician.
