ABOUT RONI NEFF

I am a professor in Environmental Health and Engineering at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Senior Advisor to the school\'s Center for a Livable Future. I have played a leadership role in growth of the field of food systems and public health through my research, education, organizational and policy activities. I edited the widely-used textbook, Introduction to the US Food System: Public Health, Environment, Equity, and am getting started on a 2nd edition. I previously led food systems efforts within the American Public Health Association and served on the board of the Agriculture, Food and Human Values Society. My research and practice activities advance resilient, equitable, and healthy food systems, with particular focus on wasted food, food system resilience, and food insecurity in the workplace. I co-direct the national RECIPES food waste research network. As a social scientist, I primarily use qualitative, survey, and policy research tools. My work is guided by a commitment to food justice. Further, it is informed by my previous work in community based organizations, local government, and policy advocacy. I co-direct three academic training programs at the Bloomberg School of Public Health: the PhD program in Environmental Sustainability, Resilience and Health, MPH Concentration in Food Systems & Public Health, and Certificate Program in Food Systems & Public Health. I teach courses on the Baltimore Food System and Food System Resilience to Disasters.
