ABOUT RONAN SCANLAN

I represent clients before Antitrust and Regulatory Authorities in the European Union and United Kingdom, including in Antitrust and Abuse of Dominance cases, Digital Markets Regulation and Markets and Merger Investigations, as well as telecoms advice and litigation. I also advise clients on adjacent matters, including investigations and notifications in relation to Foreign Direct Investment and the EU’s Foreign Subsidies Regulation.I have over 15 years’ experience of the practice of Antitrust Law in Regulated Markets (including Energy, Tech, Telecoms and Utilities) and the distinct issues that arise in these cases. This also allows me to provide specific and targeted strategic advice to best manage and anticipate regulatory risk.I qualified in 2009 to practise in England & Wales, and in 2018 I qualified to practise in Ireland. I am now dual UK-EU qualified. I hold an LLB (Warwick Law School) and an LLM (King’s College, London). I am also on the Brussels e-list.Formerly I was Deputy Director of Mergers at the Competition and Markets Authority (UK)(2014 to 2018) and spent time on secondment to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission in Ireland (Spring 2017). I represented the CMA in Brussels and China. I also worked closely with the DG Connect, DG Competition, Monitor and Ofcom during this time.I am a member of the IBA’s Unilateral Conduct Working Group, a contributor to journals including the CLJ, Kluwer and JECLAP, a speaker at TL4Competition and Informa conferences and maintain a LinkedIn newsletter,\"the CMA\'s Critical Friend\".All views expressed on LinkedIn are my own and do not necessarily represent the views of Steptoe or our clients.
