While I had a sense of what he did, he succeeded because of the way he treated people and earned their trust. Case in point: I visited his office one day and met his boss and the regional VP at the elevator as we were leaving. When we reached the main floor, those 2 brushed past us in a hurry get to the garage. So Dad and I were at the end of a long line – and then one of the valets appeared with his keys. “Hi Bill, your car’s up there.” See, Dad said hello to the valets every morning, asked how they were doing, and took an interest.
