Senior Metallurgist: Steam Turbine Generator (STG) materials and in-service conditions. Typical materials include bainitic forgings and castings (P-5C), austenitic and martensitic stainless (P-6 and P-8), elevated temperature and pressure (T/P) piping (P-5A and P-15E), Inconels/Incoloys, plus Stellite hardfacing of steam control components. Metallurgical engineering review of material’s in-service aging, fractures / thermal cracking, erosion / cavitation conditions, Root Cause Analysis of failed components, plus Life Assessment analysis for components repaired and returning to service. Total Materia database user, reconciling material specifications and behavior for different international standards, plus proprietary standards. Welding Engineering: Weld repairs and new parts welding for elevated T/P, STG components. This includes both stationary and rotating components from repairs to severely cracked inner casings, to repairs to turbine blading rotating at 3600 rpm. Code work per ASME, AWS, EN/ISO as applicable. Frequent exercising of Engineering Judgement when necessary work falls beyond the technical scope of Code work. Responsible for generation WPS/PQR, plus technical work instructions for the Shop floor. Welding processes include: SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW(-P), SAW and PTAW. NDE Engineering: NDE Level per Written Practice for Personnel Qualification and Certification. NDE methods include: UT(-PA), VT, MT and PT. Generation of NDE procedures, application of relevant codes (ASTM, ASME, AWS, JIS, EN/ISO, plus proprietary) and interpretation of results.
