The Law Enforcement program is designed with a set of core courses, designed to be flexible and to assist students in preparing for a variety of careers in Law Enforcement.The Law Enforcement program offered at Minnesota West will provide the opportunity to complete a quality peace officer training program without having to leave the general area.Students have the option to pursue certification and begin their career upon completing their A.A.S. Degree, or transfer with an A.A. Degree to complete a four-year program.

ABOUT RONALD SCHWINT

Ronald Schwint has 27 years of law enforcement experience. During his career, Ron has worked in corrections, law enforcement, and supervision. Duties performed during his career included being a field training officer, gang task force officer, an urban police rifle rapid deployment team member, and a defensive tactics instructor/coordinator. Ron currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Augustana College and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration of Adult and Higher Education from the University of South Dakota with a focus on law enforcement training and reality-based training development. Ron is now a Doctoral candidate at St. Cloud State University in higher education, writing his dissertation on law enforcement education and training management and delivery. Ron has been involved in law enforcement training since 1994. He is currently an Armament Systems and Procedures. INC (ASP) certified instructor trainer, conducting basic and instructor development certification programs For ASP. He also holds instructor certifications as a Verbal Judo instructor, an OC chemical munitions instructor,(PCR) physical conflict resolution instructor, EVOC instructor, firearms instructor, GLOCK armour, and a reality-based training instructor & MILO simulator instructor. Ron has consulted with numerous Agencies and Organizations about defensive tactic programs and policy development. He has conducted defensive tactic certification programs for them and being a subject matter expert for them. Ron has continued to put his skills to good use after returning from law enforcement by becoming a full-time law enforcement instructor at Minnesota West Community & Technical College. Ron currently designs and teaches all of the skills courses for the AAS program and teaches general criminal justice courses for the College. Ron has also actively been involved with the State POST board in redesigning the core learning objectives for the law enforcement standards program.
