ABOUT ROMULO ELY
I am an Associate Professor at Rutgers Business School working at the intersection of energy systems, electricity markets, operations management, and applied data analytics.My work focuses on assessing the economic, environmental, and systemic impacts of energy technologies and energy transitions. I use quantitative methods such as input-output analysis, econometrics, life-cycle assessment, and integrated energy–economic modeling to support policy analysis, infrastructure planning, and market design. My research has been published in journals including Annals of Operations Research, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, and Ecological Economics.In parallel, I have extensive experience designing and delivering analytics-driven courses at scale. At Rutgers, my primary teaching focus has been Operations Management, alongside contributions to Business Analytics and statistics-oriented courses across in-person, hybrid, and fully online formats, reaching several hundred students per year. This work has involved building data-driven assessments, analytical workflows, and course delivery systems resilient to online teaching constraints.Before joining Rutgers, I worked as a researcher and consultant with universities and international energy and climate initiatives in Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. These projects involved developing large-scale economic and energy databases, linking bottom-up energy models with macroeconomic frameworks, and supporting policy-oriented scenario analysis.I am particularly interested in collaborations and applied projects related to electricity markets, energy infrastructure, data-driven decision support, and energy policy.
