ABOUT ROMAIN PIZZI
Wildlife veterinary surgeon, and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and European recognised specialist. I am currently President of the Scottish branch of the British Veterinary Association, Animal Welfare Foundation Trustee, and DEFRA Animal Welfare Committee member. Aside from my interest in animal welfare, I focus on international capacity building of wildlife and conservation veterinarians in developing country. I have particular expertese in wildlife surgery, having pioneered numerous world-first procedures, from brain surgery in a moon bear in Laos, to the first keyhole surgeries in wild orangutans in Indonesia, and was elected an honorary fellow of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons (despite not operating on humans!). I work with a number of charities and wildlife conservation projects and centres dealing with species ranging from elephants to tree snails, and have worked with wildlife projects in Europe, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Ethiopia, Gambia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Morocco, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam. I have authored research in over 150 scientific journal articles, book chapters, and proceedings, and my book commissioned by William Collins is out in February 2022.
