In my role as HLTA and core member of the pastoral leadership team at Mile House, I support young people aged 11–17 navigating complex social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Our school specialises in trauma-informed care for students often at the edge of exclusion — and I help create pathways that reframe their story and reconnect them to a hopeful future.I lead a team of TAs and am responsible for staff training, development, and ensuring consistent, relational practice across the school. I also help shape whole-school strategy through the use of behaviour and engagement data — designing targeted interventions, tracking impact, and contributing to senior leadership discussions around progress and priorities.Alongside my pastoral work, I’m also hands-on in the classroom. I support the delivery of Year 11 English and Maths, helping students build confidence, close learning gaps, and prepare for GCSEs. This academic role complements my wider focus on holistic development — ensuring students are supported both emotionally and educationally as they prepare for life beyond school. As lead for our Year 11 “Walk Alongside” programme, I’ve designed and implemented a tailored mentoring model that supports post-16 transition through: • Bespoke planning to address academic, social, and emotional needs. • Coaching in life skills, self-belief, and future decision-making. • Supporting college applications, vocational pathways, and attendance improvement. • Providing trusted, consistent adult relationships that foster growth, resilience, and hope.I draw on my training in psychology, counselling, and coaching to meet students where they are — combining care with challenge to help them move forward.
