ABOUT ROLAND MAIER
I was recently selected as the Executive Director of First 5 Kern beginning March 24, 2014. I am truly honored to work with such an outstanding group of Commissioners, staff and collaborating agencies in Kern County. I will miss the students and staff in the Cuyama Valley and wish them only the best in the coming years. I have been in education off and on since 1975 serving in many capacities. I have taught at the high school and middle school levels and been a principal at K-3 sites, junior high and high school for the past 19 years. I was the Superintendent/Principal at Cuyama Joint Unified School District where I was completing my third year through the end of March 2014. I have been a Commissioner with First 5 Kern since 2003, serving in various capacities during my tenure there. I was the Commission Chairman for almost 5 years and Vice Chairman for 3 additional years. I am truly committed to the work First 5 does with children 0-5 and their families in all of the counties in California. I have also served as a Board member for the Westside Park and Recreation District for 5+ years, serving as Board president for 3 of those years. I have been active in the community, serving on the Westside Little League Board and coaching a myriad of sports as my kids grew up.
