About Rohan Kumar
Rohan Kumar is the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Security, Purview and Trust, where he leads the engineering organization developing Microsoft’s next-generation AI-driven data security, compliance, privacy, and governance solutions. He oversees product vision, strategy, technical architecture, engineering execution, and global operations for systems and services that protect organizations and critical infrastructure worldwide. Rohan began his Microsoft career in July 1998 as an engineer on the core Windows operating system, working on file system kernel-mode drivers. He owned the remote file system stack for Windows, building highly scalable, optimized, low-level components that shaped him into a strong systems engineer with a rigorous approach to architecture, performance, concurrency, and reliability. In 2003, he moved into the SQL Server database engine organization, helping drive innovation across query processing, storage engines, and distributed systems. This role marked the beginning of nearly two decades of leadership across Microsoft’s Data and Analytics platforms. As the CVP for Azure Data, he led the creation and global scale-out of services including Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB, Synapse, Fabric, Azure Data Factory, Kusto, and Azure PostgreSQL/MySQL.
